The video has been of tremendous benefit on pre-service training courses over the years. It has been used both in input and as a self-access resource for trainees. For teachers with little or no experience the video gives a good introduction to some methods which have been used in English language teaching.
Paddy McCann, Tutor for CELTA Modules 1& 2 courses, Uxbridge College
I have been using the “Teach English” video to support a range of input sessions on the CELTA course for the last four years. I find that it consistently brings training sessions to life, as so many of the techniques we aim to impart to trainees are clearly demonstrated, allowing them to witness the theory put into practice and comment on the methodology used.
In particular, the units on Teaching Vocabulary, Presenting a Structure and Error Correction have proved invaluable in their illustration of good classroom practice and always result in animated discussion on the part of the trainees. I would highly recommend its use on initial teacher trainer courses.
Carolyn Jones, Programme Area Leader ESOL / CELTA trainer, Bromley College
I have used this video in many of the CELTAs I’ve taught and have found it to be a valuable tool. The video is useful in providing a visual support to the input sessions, enabling trainees to see an additional model of the classroom skills discussed. I also use it to introduce teaching methods to trainees. The impact of the video has been demonstrated to me by the number of times over the course of the CELTA that trainees have referred back to an aspect of the video.
I will continue to use the video in future CELTAs and would encourage other trainers to do the same.
